Just at this time of year, when we’ve had the Halloween fun – with the kids rushing in and out with pumpkins to be turned, miraculously and messily, into funny ad frightening lanterns. Then we run into our dear old Bonfire Night. I still like the idea of running around with our old narrow that Dad made, on it we plonked our fantastic Guy – also rather more input from Dad than us . . . this used to bring in a luscious amount of money, which was handed back to Dad for purchasing of the family fireworks display. Mum would provide the jacket potatoes and hot soup in mugs. Oh how those memories flood back. So does the ones about the messy carpets afterwards. If only Mum had used a professional carpet cleaning company – she would have had those divinely sweet smelling Axminsters ready for the next onslaught – Christmas and New Year !
