Sometimes I look round my nice spacious family house and realise it has the beginnings of a care worn look . . . Not the image the busy ‘she who does’ needs to project, that’s for sure. I have learned that tackling any situation immediately is the only way I can operate. My instinct is to engage the services of a professional carpet cleaning company – but failing that, my route to mental salvation is to take one room at a time. Standing in the doorway, eyes left, take a visual sweep around the room and back ….. taking box or bag, remove all items that don’t belong there, pop on stairs for reallocating. Feather duster all surface in the room, include tv, mirrors, books – everything. Include cobwebs at ceiling height. Empty bin; with very slightly damp cloth, wipe all surfaces, coasters, pouffe, tv stand etc. Vacuum very thoroughly – get as far under furniture and round the edges as possible; really go over the carpet from every direction. Any stubborn dirt will usually come off with a stiff brush, then vac again.
