Cleaning Your Microwave Effectively

Cleaning Your Microwave Effectively

Cooking in the microwave can cause little food splashes, smells and decrease the efficiency of the machine.  There are different ways to clean your microwave, but our favourite uses simple ingredients you’ll probably already have in your cupboards!

You need a bowl, some water and a bottle of vinegar.

Fill your microwave safe bowl with water and add a tablespoon of vinegar (preferably white vinegar, but any vinegar should do the trick!).  Put the bowl inside the microwave and close the door. Turn the microwave on high for 5 minutes, though you might need less time in more powerful machines!  Keep an eye on it – the water will boil and steam up the walls and top of the microwave, loosening the grime.

Take the bowl out carefully and wipe down the inside of the microwave with a paper towel or clean cloth.  You should find the dried on dirt comes off easily!  You can wash the turntable as you would a plate, either in the sink or in the dishwasher.  If you don’t like the smell the vinegar leaves in the microwave, you can do the same method using lemons sliced up in the water bowl.  They will act in the same way, but leave a fresh lemon scent behind.
