Removing normal carpet stains must be done fast – using a mild no rinse carpet detergent. Always a good idea to keep a bottle under the sink . . . you might get it a little damper than recommended if the mess was liqid anyway. Panic not, just clean off loose mess first and then start with the solution – froth it up as much as you can and only use the foam on your scrubbing brush. Starting from the centre of the mess, do circular movements and rinse brush often, topping up the cleaner foam each time. Once you’ve got as much offending stuff off, get an old towel and roll it into a firm ball – blot the damp area quickly and firmly for as long as you have the energy or the towel gets too damp. To shorten damage time, take a hairdryer on very luke warm and waft it over the area to help dry it. Once dry, vacuum the pile in the right direction.
